Coating for Food and Food Packages
An odourless, air tight non-staining coating for articles of food such as hams, bacons, cheese etc. and for packages containing foodstuff is prepared of any of the following compositions.
1. Shellac Solutions:

2. Caoutchouc Latex (60/40) 7 lbs
The ammonia solution is added to the water which is then heated to near boiling and the shellac dissolved with stirring. The solution is then allowed to cool. 7 lbs. Of A, B C are mixed with 7 lbs of the caoutchouc latex with stirring till thoroughly dispersed. With A, the resulting solution is a thin fluid, with b a thin cream and with c a thick cream. All these can be diluted, if, desired, to any consistency with water.
Foodstuffs or packages can be coated with these compositions by dipping or spraying. The compositions may be coloured to any shape by incorporation of suitable dyes.
